153 dead and hundreds injured in stampedes during Halloween celebrations
At least 153 people died and hundreds more were injured in a stampede in Seoul during the city's Halloween celebrations. A movement of crowds had caused cascading "cardiac arrest" at the start of the evening, before the toll increased from hour to hour.
At least 153 people were killed in the night from Saturday to Sunday in Seoul in a stampede during Halloween festivities, we learned from an official source. "As of 4 a.m. (7 p.m. GMT Saturday), 146 people were killed and 150 injured," Choi Seong-beom, a fire official from the South Korean capital, told reporters at the scene. At 1:30 a.m., the toll was 59 dead and 150 injured, before rising to 120 dead and a hundred injured at 2:30 a.m.
This Sunday morning, the death toll stands at 153.
