285 bankruptcies in a week in Belgium

During the week of September 19 to 2, commercial courts pronounced 285 bankruptcies.


These bankruptcies resulted in the loss of 583 jobs in total.


The figures for week 38 therefore indicate an increase in the number of bankruptcies and job losses compared to the previous week.


In the first 38 weeks of 2022, corporate courts pronounced 6,539 bankruptcies. This figure is 50.5% above that of the first 38 weeks of 2021.


Job losses through bankruptcy are 18.5% lower in 2022 than the previous year. Thus, during the first 38 weeks of 2022, 2.36 jobs were lost through bankruptcy, while this ratio was 2.89 for the same period in 2021.
