The City of Brussels sets up a heat wave plan each summer. People who suffer from isolation or who are in a precarious situation can take their precautions and register at:

  • 0800 35 550 (during office hours)

How to help your pet?

Pets suffer from the heat, too. Here are some tips to keep them cool:

  • Provide shaded areas in your home.

  • Provide plenty of water for your pet.

  • Spray your pet lightly with water to cool it down.

  • Prefer wet food for dogs and cats. New or exotic pets (herbivores and omnivores) are best fed water-rich foods (fruits and vegetables) such as (water) melon or cucumber.

  • Remember to brush especially long-haired pets and remove the dead hairs.

  • Never leave your pet alone in a vehicle.

  • Be alert for symptoms of sunstroke. If you notice the following, consult your veterinarian immediately: very rapid panting, increased body temperature, trembling, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of consciousness etc.
