EU condemns Iran's execution of separatist Nidal Movement leader

The European Union (EU) condemned Iran's execution of the separatist Nidal Movement leader, Habib Ferecullah Cab.


In a written statement from the European Council, "The EU condemns in the strongest terms Iran's execution of Swedish-Iranian national Habib Cab and reminds once again its strong opposition to the application of the death penalty under all circumstances." it was said.


In the statement, it was emphasized that the EU urged Iran to follow a consistent policy towards the abolition of the death penalty.


"The increasing number of EU and EU-Iranian dual nationals arbitrarily detained in Iran, restrictions on consular access to EU citizens, denial of consular protection and the right to a fair trial are a direct violation of international law," the statement said. expressions were used.

Nidal Movement

Haraketü'n-Nidal al-Arabiyye Li Tahrir'l-Ahvaz (Arab Struggle for the Liberation of Ahvaz Movement), which was founded in 1999 with the demand for the autonomy of the Arab-dominated province of Khuzestan in Iran, announced its name in the 2005 Ahvaz events.


Known as Nidal, the organization owns an Arabic-language television channel called "Ahvazuna".


It was claimed that the Nidal Movement was the organization that attacked the military parade within the scope of the Iran-Iraq War commemoration activities in the city of Ahvaz on September 22, 2018. 25 people were killed and 60 injured in the attack.


The leader of the organization, Habib Ferecullah Cab, was caught by Iranian forces in 2020 and sentenced to death in the lawsuit filed against him.


Cab's sentence was executed in the morning.
