Heat wave in USA and Europe: danger continues in Sicily; "Red flag" warning in parts of the USA

The heat wave continues to show its effect in the USA and Europe. In the southern and western states of the USA, in Europe, especially in the south of Italy, the air temperature is expected to be at dangerous levels.


"A dangerous heat wave is expected in parts of the western and southern United States," the US National Weather Service (NWS) said in a statement. A "red flag warning" was issued in southeastern California, southern Nevada, and western Arizona.


What is a red flag alert?

A red flag warning is a forecast warning issued by the National Weather Service to inform the public, firefighters and land management agencies that conditions are ideal for wildfires to start and spread rapidly.


Temperature alarm in Sicily

The Italian Ministry of Health declared a third level red alert in 16 cities across the country. The Italian Meteorological Service reported that the temperature will start to decrease in the north of the country between 17-23 July, but the danger continues on the island of Sicily. Temperatures on the island of Sicily are expected to rise above 45 degrees.
