More than 1,500 people detained at climate protest in the Netherlands

More than 1,500 people were detained in a protest organized by the climate activist Extinction Rebellion in The Hague, Netherlands.

According to the news in The Guardian, activists blocked the roads in the climate protest against Dutch fossil fuel subsidies in The Hague. Dutch police announced that they intervened to disperse the activists who blocked one of the main roads in the city, and they detained 1579 people in the action. Police said one of the activists bit the policeman during the intervention.


Dutch celebrities were also among those who took part in the action. Carice Van Houten, known for her role as Melisandre in the TV series Game of Thrones, was among the activists. It was stated that Houten was also detained and later released.


Yokoluş İsyanı announced that 7 thousand people participated in the action.
